| Over time 'council housing' should be financially viable, even when it's let at basic 'social rent', particularly if minimal land costs are involved. The problem is that central government has repeatedly interfered with local authorities' ability to provide and sustain such housing. Only a 'National House Service' will solve this problem. The private sector won't. We don't need homes that people can afford - we need homes that people *can't* afford! |
