| Everybody should have quite extensive kerbside recycling now so shouldn't need to recycle so much at the Reuse & Recycling Centres. Wandsworth's Smugglers Way (Western Riverside Waste Authority) are only now just moving onto timed appointments - although our own West London Waste Authority centres did earlier to regulate the rush that was expected as everyone suddenly had time to have great sort-outs. We were asked not to do great sort-outs as they would not be able to cope both with staffing and with being able to dispose of what was collected. What a shame we don't have the time or inclination to do this more regularly! We could dispose of a lot of our unwanted stuff in better ways ourselves instead of expecting the Councils with their (isn't it over 60%) reduction in income from central Govt. We need to try and be more choosy with what we buy - being "cheap so it doesn't matter" should not be an excuse to buy. We still have to pay for disposal in our Council Tax if we change our minds/get tired of something. For instance online shopping can mean that people have stuff in their wardrobes that they have never worn and never will wear. The cost of that from start to finish on the environment is huge. During the Covid 19 pandemic Councils need to concentrate their staffing and efforts on maintaining kerbside collections.
