| Ealing's proposal to close the Stirling Road recycling centre will have been based on one consideration; money, both what it costs to run and what the site is worth. It won't matter how many or how few people are using it, or how valuable an amenity it is, I'm afraid we have most definitely entered "cost of everything and value of nothing" territory. This will be one of many sacrifices we will all be making in the years to come as local and national government gets to grips with the cost of Covid. At a basic level there can be no doubt that closing facilities like Stirling Road will lead to ever more fly-tipping - and ironically the increased cost required to deal with it. |
