| No the Govt was caught with its pants down. Something like this pandemic was expected and then when it did we just seemed to watch it come closer and closer with horror. To then find that there had been no constant preparation and updating following a risk assessment like Operation Cygnus was gobsmacking. A tremendous effort was been made by a lot of volunteers to make scrubs and masks and visors all over the UK. Offers from companies in the UK who could help were left on answerphones. Scrub hubs were set up all over the country. 17,000 items were made and distributed by just one volunteer group in Putney: https://www.thescrubbery.org/ A salutary lesson in why austerity and depending on just-in-time supplies from overseas without any or enough backup is not a good idea. There is an enormous shortage of staff. |
