To Sam Hearn. You seem to have missed the point. It is the lack of sensitivity that has caused such outrage. There is no requirement for trees to be cut so that the area looks like armageddon has come. It is because the trees are being cut so hard back that they respond with massive growth and thereby cause all the complaints about blocking out light. I don't see your point about 'street trees' . The Councils have a duty to ensure that they are kept safe and do not provide a hazard to the roads and pedestrians but this sort of cutting is way over the top and, frankly, offensive. As a compromise to all this I would like to suggest that one street is used as a test case and 'sensitively' pruned so that the trees are husbanded and kept airy and light. I am pretty sure it will be found (after several corrective prunings) that the amount of pruning required will be far less than at present and at greater intervals. I am prepared to consult with all my neighbours and suggest the street where I live be used for this purpose. The Borough up for criticism at the moment is Ealing and you are from Hounslow but if they use the same contractors we are in for the same state of armageddon and we are, after all a garden suburb. |
