as part of the duty of care the council have to the people living in thier borugh, im sure that management of the trees is one of the prime considerations. one only has to walk around london to see the extent of the tree cover over residential streets and main throughfairs alike. cutting the trees back like this manages tree's growth and health (for the better) and also safegurds utilities pavements roads and properties. larger root systems make pavements more dangerous for the elderly, roads more dangerous for all users, means the properties come under increasing risk of damage and potentially increases the amount of roadworks. also, bare in mind the scale of the job the council and tree surgeons have. there are quite a few trees about. you have a choice. no trees, or tree management. just because it looks severe, doesnt mean it is. theyll be back into leaf in no time, and healthier for it. |
