Co-incidentally I have just had a call from the RSPB and I mentioned what Ealing was doing and he said this was definitely not the time of year to be pruning such trees. Many birds have nested and have young that have to be fed. The very trees they are pruning so heavily are a main source of food for fledglings so it stands to reason that without the food they will not survive and given that the Big Bird Garden Watch survey shows that the small birds have declined hugely over the last few years this is a grossly unsympathetic action on behalf of the Council. |
