"Eh? Here's a fact for you: Today the European Parliament has voted by a massive majority for the UK to receive the second biggest payout ever from the solidarity fund - more than £120m. Probably some 'corrupt unelected bureaucrats' will be responsible for signing the cheque". Eh? ( Such an evocative and intelligent word - it conveys so much meaning - I love it). Yes, Will, but where exactly does this money come from? As if you didn't know. As for who signs the cheque, you are of course, 100% correct. The amount of damage caused by the floods of June/July 2007, was approximately £500,000,000 - and we are very generously donated about 3-4% of that figure - our own money. What is the purpose of giving enormous sums of money to a 'foreign power', which is grossly inefficient and incompetent at best, and proven to be hideously corrupt at worst? Why do the auditors of the EU have such an ongoing problem with balancing the books, and have had for more than 10 years? Double entry book-keeping? Too risky. And why on earth should we have to compromise our traditions and sovereignty in order to live effectively with our neighbours? What a load of garbage and claptrap. |
