Of course there must be a referendum, on the basis of what was promised by the Labour Party in the 2005 Election Manifesto, and also because the Lisbon Treaty is the Constitutional Treaty of the European Union. The main provisions of the Treaty will result in an unprecedented further transfer of power from national governments to the centralised institutions of the EU, run by unelected, corrupt bureaucrats, who have not the slightest concern for anything vaguely Anglo-Saxon. Why on earth would anyone want to be ruled by another 'country', a federal government? The whole concept of the European Union has been drip-fed to an unsuspecting electorate - not just in this country - ever since the days of Jean Monnet and Arthur Salter, 70 odd years ago. Lies and deception were the order of the day then, and have been ever since. Everything was presented in economic terms with scant regard for the far more important constitutional questions. The Maastricht Tteaty was concerned primarily with economic integration, the Lisbon Treaty is one further step towards the ultimate transfer of power from our parliament to the corrupt bureaucrats in Brussells. We are not part of Europe, and we dont' need them. They need us far more than we need them, and the sooner we disentangle ourselves from the EU, completely, the better. |
