This might be a terrible admission to make, but at least I am honest enough to declare it. I bet that a small percentage of the people who would vote in this referendum would understand the first paragraph of the treaty, and of those people only a few would actually bother to read the thing. The voting would not even go along party lines - I imagine that pro europeans will vote for it and antis would vote against. No, I don't even want to read it - I elected a government to make these decisions for me. You say that the EU will run the country and control our laws. I have read many comments that deny this, why should I believe you?. Are you a respected political commentator?. This nonsense about unelected bureaucrats is so much rubbish - is the UK run by unelected civil servants or by their political masters? - The same question can be asked about the EU. The EU is simply not big enough to have the level of control that you imply, but even if it did - do I mind if they set our laws? - well no, not really, most of the europeans I have met have pretty much the same ideals as the UK and their laws are pretty much the same - it would be simply crazy if they were different. As for the economics, well I think that it's normal for taxes to be collected and monies distributed. What's to say? I hope that everybody's standard of living increases as a result. |
