There is zero chance of him showing common sense but the experience of his first administraton showed that the people around him made sure he was kept away from most decision making and his limited attention span allowed this to happen. He will lose interest in Ukraine the second after his 24 hour plan fails. The question then is who he blames and it will be a much harder sell for the American people for him to abandon Ukraine and support Putin. The concern that he is a Russia asset may be overblown. He obviously did receive financing through Russian sources in the past and had ambitious to expand into Moscow but, even if Putin has video footage of Trump engaging in watersports with prostitutes in a Moscow hotel room, just yesterday a judge in an American court confirmed to a jury that it was an established fact that he is a rapist. There is simply nothing that could emerge about him that would undermine his support among his base. Also his sons and Jared Kusher have obtained significant alternative funding from the Saudis so he no longer needs Russian support despite the looming collapse of his business empire. The Saudis are no friends of the Russians because of the latters ever closer alliance with the Iranians so a quick Ukrainian victory would suit them. |
