As I said, I know very little about military matters and base what I say on those that do. Despite my lack of expertise in the subject I can safely say that it exceeds Bryan's. No nation has 6-gen aircraft, even the most advanced powers aren't going to introduce them until the next decade and that probably won't include Russia which will have difficulty getting its hands on the technology necessary to build them. Even with F-16s the Russian's will have more modern fighter aircraft and more experienced pilots but the effectiveness of Ukraine's advanced western air defence and the need for the Russians to deploy planes far from the front lines has totally negated any advantage the VKS could have provided. The balance of power in the air is swinging towards the Ukrainians. Whether that will deliver the air superiority necessary to win a decisive breakthrough in the spring is not something that any of the experts are taking for granted but anyone holding out hope for a Russian 'wunderwaffe' to tip the struggle back in their favour is living the same fantasy world as the previous crew who believed this sort of nonsense. |
