OK Adam, Nobody taken a bite so I'll have a nibble. I think you're basically right. But the issues are far simpler than you suggest. Sure, these are contentious issues. Most have very different opinions. My response to Sunday's flower market was partially similar to Stewart J's. We paraded down there about twelvish, took one look at the crowds and the queue and decided not to go in. A bit too much like putting one's head in a lion's mouth. I'm not yet quite that daft. That said, I loved what I saw. I loved all the happiness and all the business being done. So we assayed up the car-free Devonshire Road and it was fabulous. The cafe's heaving with diners. The young and the middle-aged doing what the young and the middle-aged do. Enjoying themselves. Us oldies have choices. We can hide and survive. Or we can play and take the risk. And suffer the consequences if it goes tits up for us. I prefer to play low risk. But I'm also quite happy to see others getting out there, spending money and living life. If they don't do that, shops and bars won't just close – they'll shut forever. Businesses will collapse on a grand scale. It'll be like the 1920's depression times ten. The prospect for any successful future life for the younger generation and the younger middle-aged generations will shrink to nothingness. Alternatively STAY AT HOME... That's the choice. And nobody making their own choice deserves to be labelled a moron. Or a retard... Just sayin' |
