| As far as I am aware open air markets are still permissible under current government guidelines therefore there is no reason the Chiswick Flower shouldn't proceed if changes were made to the organisation. Colder weather should guarantee that the numbers attending will be reduced. No law was broken in the holding of the market and I would dispute the organisers were irresponsible let alone criminally irresponsible. Up until the Friday before the market was held the latest figures suggested that there were zero or close to zero Covid-19 infections in Chiswick. It is likely the organisers were unaware of the sharp increase that took place in Chiswick that was announced just before the market was held. The Council and local public health officials would have been aware of these numbers yet they evidently chose not to alert the organisers or give guidance that the market should be cancelled. If you really do think a serious wrong was done here, a Freedom of Information request will tell you who knew what when. |
