I've read a lot of the posts on this thread. Some of it confirms what I've heard from canvassing, people want to know 'the facts'. The problem is , there are no hard facts about what will definitely happen in the future. One can only assess the balance of probabilities. The other big problem is, this being a campaign dominated by Tory politicians, it all comes down to whether we'd be better or worse off economically. It's a reflection of a squalid and depressing view of life where everything is reduced to money. Some things can't be reduced to hard cash. Alternatively, it's about immigration. For the record I've voted to Remain because I think, on balance, we're stronger pooling our sovereignty. Secondly, if Ireland stays in and we're out the border posts and barbed wire will be back with a possible recrudescence of Republican physical force. Thirdly, the Outers haven't been able to settle on what relationship they want with the EU if we leave. This makes pledges about immigration worthless. |
