PC > "How can anyone 'know' anything?" This is epistemological nihilism and, in my opinion, an unnecessarily extreme position. PC > "Nobody has any facts because life and politics aren't that tidy." There is some very good analysis of the issues and the likely implications of leaving or remaining. Unfortunately both campaigns, aided and abetted by the popular press, are not promoting this type of material because it is difficult to digest and does not lend itself to convenient sound bites. You have to go looking for it yourself. There is no certainty in any of this, but by researching a wide enough range of sources and looking at the quantity and quality of supporting evidence, you will be able to make a well-informed and reasonable decision. PC > "It will come down to a gut instinct on the day." To a large degree this is what both campaigns are expecting and have designed their strategies accordingly. Expect to see a ramping up of the appeals to emotion and fear over these last two weeks of campaigning. This is a huge decision for the country and it saddens me that it might be determined by gut instinct rather than informed and reasoned thinking. |
