PC > "Looking into the future is impossible." Once again, I have to disagree. Individuals and businesses do it all the time. For example, when buying a property it is usual to order a planning search to see what planning permissions exist for the surrounding land. It will also reveal details of the local authority's planning policies for the area which can be an indicator of what types of development might be approved (or rejected) in the future. Businesses create new products, make sales forecasts and develop long-term strategic plans by looking at historical performance, market trends, competitor activity, customer feedback and a wide range of economic indicators for the areas in which they will be trading. There has just been an excellent BBC4 series - 'Storm Troupers: The Fight to Forecast the Weather'. It might not be perfect, but it is infinitely better than saying it can't be done and doing what - nothing? |
