Tom, I am not sure how much your tongue is in your cheek with your previous post but I raised the issue as we are constantly hearing that the NHS needs more money etc. Whilst it is funded without understanding what sort of injuries/illnesses are costing what or even the "knock-on" effect of people having their operations postponed because an accident has occurred with a more serious injury, then there is no responsibility from the person who is getting the treatment. If people are ill through no fault of their own such as cancer (though I do concede the connection with tobacco) then the NHS should treat them free of charge. If they have contributed to their illness/injury then they should pay. I have no idea, however, how much money this would "free up". Not sure the NHS does either. As a side comment, I do like the idea of being "high without insurance" and the banks offering drug-taking insurance with current accounts. Appropriate really... |
