"I found it much easier to get a licence for a gun than a licence to ride a motorcycle" Presumably not any more.... There is the question as to how/whether people who choose to indulge in drugs, rock climbing, motorbike riding etc. should be looked after by the NHS when something happens. In Andy's case, the answer is clearly Yes as the accidents were not his fault. However, maybe the people who caused the accident should be billed by the NHS for the costs involved. Arguably, their insurance should cover this sort of cost. Much the same argument can be made for dangerous sports such as rugby, rock-climbing, sky-diving etc. Maybe the participants should be insured so as not to an unnecessary cost on the NHS should an accident occur. Certainly if you go on skiing trips and get hurt, you will receive a bill from the local hospital in Switzerland, France or wherever. |
