THe Chief Constable for Durham,Mike Barton has called for all drugs to be de-criminalised,and for class A drugs like heroin and cocaine to be prescribed on the NHS.I know this subject is debated fairly frequently, but is it really time drugs laws were completely overhauled. There is no doubt,as far as I am concerned, that these laws are seriously outdated.Due to my various illnesses,in my medine box at home I have 3 different class A drugs, all prescribed and all perfectly legal. One of them is a man made substitute for heroin. All of the Class A drugs I have were prescibed for the relief of pain.Cannabis has also been found to have great pain killing power but if I get caught in possession of it I could,at least in theory,go to prison. The government allows consultants in pain clinics in hospitals to prescribe cannabis for pain under the name Sativex, but this is only available to sufferers of MS and a very few other serious illnesses on a private prescription which costs about £500 for 4 packs. The drugs laws really do need sorting out |
