| 'Brown was not leader of the party when the party was elected hence he was not elected as PM even if elected an MP,' As has been pointed out, we never elect a prime Minister but we elect party representatives, with the majority (alone or in coalition) becoming the government - which decides who will be Prime Minister. In any case, Blair was elected three times on Philip's criterion of a legit Prime Minister, and he wasn't invited. And surely the 'rules' of politeness, courtesy and non-partisanship should trump archaic protocols that allowed the invitations to some disreputable figures whose positions owe nothing to democracy in any form. |
