| A slightly incendiary title deliberately but I just wanted to put the view of many people I know across lest it get hidden by all those that enjoyed the Royal Wedding. It's great you enjoyed it, I'm happy you can take joy from two strangers getting married. Unlike some I'm not against the Royal Family, they do a job as a tourist attraction that does make this country a lot of money. Also the idea of a figure head to the nation I don't think is a bad one. But I really didn't care a hoot about the wedding. That's fine until I'm face with people who kind of insist you take part. Add to that the enforced holiday, fine for you 9 to 5 ers but not good for contractors, that's a days wage I'm down. So I'm out a few quid. But what about the UK? All that extra tourism, tasteless bits and bobs and increased exposure must have netted in something? Estimates are about 2bn. But what about the cost of a day of the UK downing tools. Estimates are around 6-10bn. We're at least 4bn out of pocket. Next time - let's not have a holiday. Have the event, let people take the day off if they want. Have your fun but don't try and force it on others. |
