| "The families paid for the wedding itself. Okay, the taxpayer paid the bill for the policing, as they did for the anti-cuts demo a month ago, or for the G20 protests. At least this time people had something fun to watch. " The vast majority if cost was not the event it's self but the days public holiday. I've nothing against the event as enough people enjoyed it. I'm putting forward the perspective who where forced not to work on that day and have to contribute part of the cost of a country downing tools for the day. The policing was covered by the increase in tourism, the cost of lost tax etc will not be covered. It's not a maths sum really but that's the reality of the situation. I also find it highly offensive to call those protesting against the cuts as 'nutters'. 99.9% of them where peaceful protestors with a right to have their say and a genuine cause, even if they are ignored. |
