| "Richard if that video ..." Which video? I'm assuming you mean the one that Carrie posted on 1/5/2001 at 23:46. "... didn't make you worry about the reality of life in Britain and the level of repression that goes on against the most minor forms of dissent let alone organising a popular (or not) uprising then you are ether not very bright or a police officer, perhaps both." My interpretation of that video was that the police weren't bothered about the "demonstration" or whatever it was, but wanted to arrest someone for what I gathered from the short interview towards the end was connected with criminal damage. That's not repression, it's the police doing their job. And no, I am not a police officer. "but still 26.6 million people managed not to tune in to any of it, that is about 45% of the UK population that managed to avoid the unavoidable. They didn't do that by chance did they!" No, but it doesn't follow that it was because they wanted to avoid the wedding. In my case, it was because I was in Charing Cross Hospital all day, together with other patients, plus of course doctors, nurses, etc. |
