| 'Pub gardens are full of smokers because they’ve been forced out there by a draconian law.' I am aware of that Todd, and don't feel the banning of smoking is draconian but a sensible health measure. However, as the reasons apply less in the open air, I accept I need to sometimes tolerate the smoking I don't like - or find somewhere else. The issue of the efficiency of a market economy is interesting. Of course its not perfect, but it is broadly true that if there is a demand someone will seek to exploit it (with varying degrees of success) - particualrly in an area with the economic profile of Chiswick. In terms of demand, seems interesting that All Bar One has advertised that it is moving away from being child free - an indication perhaps of market demand. An advantage of a free economy is that minorities who are badly served can start their own enterprises. |
