| I saw precisely what you are talking about yesterday, Emily.Went to the Swan (marvellous food, nice beer garden) and watched while a group of children climbed various fixtures in the garden, paraded around the tables, singing constantly, and picked a selection of the carefully-planted flowers from the flower beds, in order to use them in their games.Needless to say, the parents looked on with unabashed admiration for their kids' behaviour....Thing is, the Swan makes their policy re kids plain - they are welcome until 7 and not thereafter so whereas I thought the kids were disruptive and poorly (if not badly) behaved, I knew the score when I went in so it was my choice to 'take my chances.'But you're right, Emily - we should have the choice of places where we can go and NOT have to share the company of children. And sometimes (brace yourself parents) EVEN DURING DAYLIGHT HOURS!!!! Yes, that's right - the day does not belong exclusively to you and your kids! That's all people like Emily and I are asking for - apparently that makes us intolerant and (in my case at least) the product of a scarred childhood myself....We'll see if you face similar character assassination for your 'outrageous' views.....;) |
