| "As for the smoking ban, what is there not to like?" Well, as an example in Ireland it has led to the closure of thousands of pubs. This has been especially harmful in rural areas where the village pub served as a meeting place. The last time I was in Dublin there was a radio discussion about loneliness and depression in rural areas caused by the closures. Also, the completely predictable conversion of pub gardens/patios to areas full of smokers, and with ecologically harmful heaters(giving you singed hair and freezing feet). Also the lack of any buzz in many pubs now, presumably due to fewer numbers of people in there. No, I don't smoke. |
