| Community, like society in general, is about tolerance and compromise.Tolerance is, as you say, about putting up with some things you dislike, such as people talking loudly on mobile phones. But there are places where you shouldn't have to tolerate them at all - people talking loudly on mobile phones in cinemas, for example. That's where the compromise comes in.Equally, those of us that find children disruptive (sorry, parents, but even 'well-behaved' children, such as I'm sure ALL yours are, can be dispruptive) should have establishments wherein we can be assured they will not be allowed.Intolerance would be demanding children be banned from ALL establishments.Compromise is expecting them to be banned from SOME establishments, which is my view.In my experience, too, those of us who are not keen on children's company are FAR more tolerant when we find ourselves in their company (whether we like it or not) than are parents who discover (to their horror and fury) that a particular business does NOT welcome their offspring on bended knee..... |
