| Dear God, Tony, are we REALLY at the point that we consider social compromise impossible without governmental intervention?!?!?!? I LOATHE the nanny state and busybody interventional legislation. Absolutely despise it! But see, its exactly BECAUSE people are so unwilling to allow others to have 'their bit, their way' that we have so much intrusive legislation now. Like I say; thats the way the world is turning. But to answer your question, how do I see the above happening without the government stepping in? Well, just by people accepting other people's choices. I go to a Pub Number 1 that has a child's menu and that means I have to accept that kids'll likely be there. Equally, if parents go to Pub Number 2 and find an 'Over 16s only' notice they smile, shrug, and go somewhere else (without kicking up a stink and writing to their MP in indignation.....) No laws needed, just simple human respect for the wishes and dispositions of others. Is it really THAT difficult to envisage.....? |
