| Mark The figure came from memory of a newspaper article, but I think I have inadvertantly exaggerated, something I hate. This is from over two years ago, so probably understates the figure a little, but not as much as I suggested. I think the "thousands" I read about must have been a prediction of the UK effect.Sorry. Tadg O’Sullivan from the Vintners’ Federation of Ireland warned Scotland’s publicans they face tough times after the ban came into force this week. He said the ban in Ireland had been a disaster for the industry resulting in 600 pub closures and 12,000 job losses. He also questioned the health claims made in support of a ban — saying it simply forced more people to drink and smoke at home which increased the risks to children and non-smokers. This guy has a great name. Whether the last paragraph has any basis in fact, I somewhat doubt. |
