I think the Gherkin and Ark are original, attractive, witty designs, although the Ark is in a ludicrous site - but it cheers me up whenever I see it imagining Noah looking out for signs of human life. But the proposed roundabout building seems to be unorigal variation on the ugly theme of seemingly collapsed/collapsible buildings, such as Daniel Libeskind's thankfully abandoned V&A design: http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/entertainment/3665466.stm Talking of the V&A, and lifting art and design horizons beyond Gunnersbury roundabout, I recommend a visit to the new Medieval and Renaissance galleries - stunningly laid out I think with some wonderful works. For example, I find the carved wooden Madonna exquisitely beautiful. |
