| I made an error earlier saying that the risk to cyclists at the Dukes Avenue junction came from eastbound motorists turning left - that of course should have been right. I'm sad to learn that the number of serious injuries to cyclists at Weltje Road has continued. People did warn that this was a risk with bi-directional cycle routes. Hopefully the fact that the collisions after 2023 weren't reported in local media is an indication at they were at the lower level of serious. The numbers are still too low to say with any confidence that the Weltje Road junction is considerably more dangerous than the Dukes Avenue one. My guess would be that a disproportionate amount of traffic looking to get onto the A4 and needing an alternative to Weltje Road will choose Dukes Avenue. Both Chiswick Lane (Hogarth Roundabout) and Sutton Court Lane will involve substantial waits at lights. The risk here is that you are simply transferring the problem from on junction to another. |
