Regarding the recent article on the proposed Weltje Road traffic restrictions, having lived on the road for 32 years and recently moved to Chiswick (to a road where A4 access is blocked) I find the complaints about potential traffic displacement somewhat hypocritical. It is true that Weltje Road has been treated as a 3,500-vehicle-a-day rat run, gridlocked and choking on fumes for 50 years as the ONLY small residential road open to the A4 fron Hogarth Roundabout to Hammersmith Broadway, as your article rightly points out. Yet, I don’t see any of the Chiswick residents crying foul about "traffic displacement" volunteering to open up their own quiet, residential streets that have blocked access to the A4 to share the burden. It seems they are perfectly happy to leave Weltje Road residents carrying the entire burden at the expense of their health and safety, just so their own roads stay quiet. LBHF’s scheme is a fair and proportionate solution to a dangerous and deeply unfair situation. |
