| Are emergency vehicles to be given "access all areas" status as their crews attempt to negotiate this LTN minefield? I'm asking because I just had occasion to call out the AA for assistance outside my home in Grove Park. I got a call from the chap to say he was on his way and just approaching Chiswick Bridge. I had another call from him two minutes later asking if he was allowed to come via Hartington Road, to which the answer is of course "no". When he arrived I explained to him that his options would shortly be even more limited. Bear in mind this chap is a local (he lives in Isleworth) and has been working for the AA for over 20 years, so he knows the patch well. He said his job is getting practically impossible to do without picking up fines - which are paid by the AA, but which ultimately of course are passed on to the customer. How on earth does it make any sense to stop people like this doing a vital job? Somebody please tell me an ambulance or fire brigade driver doesn't have to go the long way round when on an emergency call-out. |
