| Measures being unpopular are no longer regarded as being grounds for their removal. The council is proceeding with Streetspace schemes across the borough even though, in almost every case, a significant majority of residents were against them. The relatively new notion that people can have schemes imposed in their area against their will is a central government policy and what happens if you push back has been demonstrated by the experience of Ealing Council which has had its funding withdrawn. Hounslow on the other hand, led by Hanif Khan fortified by a glass of lukewarm orange juice and a few vol au vents from his day out at Number 10, is pursuing this agenda with alacrity. |
