| The UK granted emergency use, which means that they cannot hold any of the pharma companies liable if there are any nasty side effects from the vaccines. During a global pandemic and given that the vaccines concerned have been through all the usual safety and efficacy tests then this I would say is the right approach. The EMA opted for full approval which takes longer, but does mean that they are able to hold the pharma companies liable in the event of any unexpected side effects, all fine and dandy in normal times, but not suitable for the situation we are in I would argue. There is nothing preventing any member state granting emergency use to any of the vaccines & buying them themselves. |
