| There is nothing more pointless than vaccine nationalism. The virus will only be properly eradicated if every country in the world has access to vaccinations. As I understand it the European approach more like a convoy than a race ensuring that all nations in the union get equal access to avoid counter bidding and hoarding and secure a lower price. The main reason the UK's programme is so far ahead is not us not being in the EU but because the NHS provides a much better infrastructure for rolling out the vaccine than other European countries have. This was fortunate because are high death rate meant we needed to get a move on. Also we had a pool of people to test the vaccine because until recently we used to host the centre that tested drugs for the EU. |
