| Thanks, Ruth, for your reply. Once again you spout evangelical, one-sided rhetoric all about cycling. No surprise there. And once again you neglect to acknowledge my support of a better, improved plan for cycling on CHR not this ill-conceived cycle superhighway on a high street (a model that doesn't exist anywhere). As for the pleasant piazza space - couldn't agree with you more. Except with CS9 the bus stop will be just beside it. And to the point other cyclists make on sitting outside next to bus lanes/fumes - who would want that? So think it ALL the way through, Ruth. You've met with TfL engineers so you are fully aware this piazza will ostensibly be killed by the bus stop not to mention the idling traffic when buses back up into the intersection. Again, I ask you to sit and discuss this scheme with pedestrians and business owners while listening to what WE/THEY have to say as we have done endless listening to what you have said. With other cycle routes being completed, we are now able to assess their performance and level of success. Sadly, the news isn't always as good as you purport. But that's just fact, not your rhetoric. Here on the forum all you've done is swing it back to the cycling mantra. Perhaps that is all you are able to do. You strike me as smarter and more capable of that. As for the real danger to local residents...that comes in many forms and on 2 and 4 (or more) wheels. For the purposes of this thread, we'll leave increased knife crime out of it. Just ask Loraine. Or the woman who was waiting at the cross walk yesterday with a cyclist just next to her. When the light changed, the cyclist took off and crossed this woman's path as she entered the pedestrian crosswalk. She was headed north and he was headed west and he was waiting down east from her. He couldn't be bothered to wait two seconds. So when a cyclist and a pedestrian are waiting at a pedestrian cross walk, who has right of way? Will it endanger the cyclist to wait a second or two? Am I anti-cycling because I think common courtesy in this instance is out the window? I think the real danger to this community is blind advocacy like yours, if I'm honest. I don't think you have a clue as to what makes a truly healthy, vibrant and sustainable community. I don't think you have a clue as to what forces are at play for local businesses. And given the extreme reduction in footpath width the cycle superhighway scheme proposes, I don't think you give a rat's ass about pedestrians. |
