I was not ignoring signage. There was no signage at the crossing saying the footpath was closed a very short distance up. If there had of been I would have walked further down the north side first. Given the short distance the pavement was blocked, I was not going to walk back and cross the road and cycle track another two times. Also it says in the highway code if the pavement is blocked, you should use the road. So what I was doing was not illegal and I was perfectly entitled to do so. Running red lights(and cycling on pavements) is illegal. Getting back to CS9, we already know that a significant number of cyclists 'jump' red lights on the part of the route from Hammersmith to Chiswick Roundabout. Some also cycle fast. When they have their own cycle path this will get worse not better. See James McConnell's post which highlights this. It is inevitable we will see incidents of cyclists going into pedestrians. The sooner we can get a Judicial Review on this whole project the better. |
