| While I agree the OP is making more of this problem it should be remembered that most cyclists do not stop at zebra crossings and red lights. I had an interesting chat with a head of a primary school a couple of weeks ago ... for some time now they specifically address the risks of cyclists when taking the children out. It used to be that once the traffic had stopped for a zebra (or the pedestrian light had turned greenon a pelican) you could cross with some confidence but now the instruction is to keep fully aware as if you were crossing a unregulated road. You could argue this should always be the case should some car driver had missed the light. The difference is that the children would see the cars had stopped but then cyclists speed through the stationery cars and over the crossings. Sorry but until we have some way to enforce penalties on errant cyclists it is time to save public money on providing them with road space to go even faster. |
