| Which blind eye did I turn? I cycle every day and use local shops, cafes and restaurants - I also know huge numbers of people across London and the Country who do the same and are utterly bewildered why you appear to have this extraordinary vision of people who use 2 wheels to get around rather than 4. Someone at a Cycle conference mentioned you on Saturday when they knew I was from Chiswick and said you were concerned about lack of parking bay. Interesting that was what you were known for - and you already have the biggest car free area outside your cafe which could be a pleasant piazza for alfresco eating/drinking as per most European cities/towns if it were not for the noise and pollution of the endless traffic. And you have a parking bay which is not changing afaik. You for one are continually rude and sarcastic to people with families who would prefer to cycle and breathe clean air - if you care to pop down to the Farmers Mkt on a Sunday at Dukes Meadows you would see a) lots of families on bikes but sadly b) gridlock on the A316 because so many are either too afraid or insist that only by car can they get anywhere. The people from Waltham Forest are enjoying the results of the Mini Holland thus far and are benefitting from having LTNs implemented. European Cities all over are closing centres and squares to cars. And magically manage to have lots of customers and deliveries and happy people. I for the life of me cannot fathom why you are so angry about all of this. It really is most upsetting - and every crash resulting in injury or death to someone cycling or walking by a driver is dismissed by you repeatedly and yet you dine out on the one case of Charlie Alliston - I can provide lists of people who have had their lives destroyed by drunk, drugged or simply careless or angry drivers - you appear to not even register those. Nor the 10,000 who drive around with 12+ points on their licences - where is your fury about them? I am about to go to my local shops and will have to jump out of the way of drivers as they speed across the entry to Marlborough Rd, watch for the drivers who always jump the red lights at the junc of Acton Lane and CHR, run across Town Hall Ave as no drivers stop even when I am on the road already and then try to get across Dolman Rd without a (usually) PHV driver driving at me. Just take a breath and reflect where the real danger is to local residents. |
