| Richard, Sorry if I came across as "extremely aggressive and personal". I was merely taking the piss and making fun of the more ludicrous and hyperbolic of your claims. The first point is that people really aren't very good at estimating actual speeds with accuracy so your claims of "were in the region of 20mph" have no basis. Regarding your claim of an average speed of 37mph, that is faster than a pro cyclist on a Tour de France time trial. A maximum on a Tour de France sprint is about 48mph. Are you sure you aren't looking at data that includes races along the Embankment when the roads are closed? From the Strava link you provided, I note that the fastest speed on the page was by Tom Moses who is a professional cyclist and the date of 22 September 2013 was for the closing stage of the Tour of Britain race when the road was closed. Regarding your invitation to sit by the Embankment to "prove your point", I am not sure what your point is, other than you don't appear to want safer, protected cycling along Chiswick High Road. A point I disagree with. Wouldn't it be better to ride along the Embankment anyway? It would be up to you if your went on the cycle track or went on the road. I'd definitely be using the cycle track. |
