| Agreed Richard The CHR CS9 stretch from Goldhawk to Heathfield has 13 signalled road pedestrian crossings of which 7 also stretch over the Superhighway. For the remainder the cyclist has "prioity" and the predestrian will have to dash for it. However, 7 signalled stops on CHR is going to be frustrating for cyclists. It's also confusing as so many spots they have priority so why not here? The experience of other cycle highways is that the majority stop at the road junctions. However, for the pure pedestrian crossings on the cycle highway? Not much chance - as your experience on the Embankment. Many commuter cyclists believe it's safe to jump these purely pedestrian lights on "their" road. They believe they are suitable skilled enough to take "care" to avoid the odd pedestrian whilst not losing momentum, time and energy, not having to unclip their shoes...as long as the pedestrian acts predictably. I don't happen to think that is safe or right. What are the speed limits for cyclists through the busy high road stretch? Are there any? What are the penalties for cyclists jumping lights? Are there any? |
