| Trouble is that there is a bit of a Catch 22 situation. If you have the litter-pickers/street-sweepers following straight after the waste and recycling collection there isn't the same onus on the waste and recycling contractors to make sure that they put everything in the lorry and don't drop anything. Have you seen the speed at which they sometime move down the street? The lorry goes along and the workers have to run to keep up with it - and this also leads to green boxes and food waste bins being thrown back into gardens rather than put back. The aim is to get the job "done" if you can call it that as quickly as possibly. Quality of collection - is that mentioned in the contract I wonder? I agree it is good when you get the litter-picker the next day because then it is unlikely that the two contractors will be working in the wrong order and you then get a good clean street until the next waste and recycling day (providing people don't put their rubbish out unprotected too early). |
