So the majority already recycle and in order to tackle the problem of the minority that don't do anything wheelie bins have to be introduced? Quite a few Councils in London have compulsory recycling. That means that you are expected to do something about it. I remember reading an article about H&F where there were comments that people hadn't realised how easy it was. I think it was Brent that voted for it. The effort was then put in to have the extra green boxes and info easily available for those who had not bothered in the past. In Richmond I understand that people decided they would prefer to have compulsory recycling than to have fortnightly waste collections. I'm glad the documentation reminds people that if they have these things they will have to find space for them and pull them around. Ealing's new contract has been disastrous with collection lorries far too big to go down a lot of the streets. Big lorries and wheelie bins obviously suit the Contractors but not necessarily our small streets and small gardens and in many cases our small amount of waste. |
