Hmm...new at this one. I'll paste the whole message: Hounslow's recycling service is now so good that if we're making full use of it, there's hardly anything to put in black sacks and nothing to attract foxes or vermin. It seems now that not only will we all be contributing to the cost of landfill tax for those who don't recycle but also for bins for them to put it in. In many cases smallish bins will mean black sacks on top and next to. There already are, even with bigger wheeler bins. We don't even need a bin in the kitchen for what little there is - just a carrier bag will do. Even visitors, cleaners and carers can't just put it in the bin if there isn't one and containers are clearly labelled. They dont't have to be crates! It takes no longer to put something in the right place then it does to put it in the wrong place. Why is the recycling rate still only 35% when so many of us are achieving over 90%? An increase of 1% is a saving of 85k p.a. for using on other services. To improve recycling and stop bag splitting, could the council stop collecting black sacks and emptying wheeler bins, supplying us instead with clear, addressed sacks which are scanned and if containing recyclables,a charge is made? Any dumping of anonymous sacks could be rigorously investigated and fines made under the Clean Neighbourhoods Act. Expensive! We can't park cars anywhere we like but we can throw out as much rubbish as we like without any personal cost to ourselves. Children learn very quickly and allowances could be made for the elderly and genuinely confused. Recyclables could be collected in clear sacks, co-mingled, from flats over shops, leading to the demise of the sinister black sack and presence of recycling bins in the streets(very expensive, messy and inconvenient). Also large refuse wheeler bins, as next to Turnham Green station, Thornton Ave and piles of anonymous in Chardin Rd. There's a lot of money in those black sacks! Time for an updated and fair approach for the economy, clean streets, the planet and to create jobs? |
