I see that the Overview and Scrutiny C'tee on 4th November had a session on Savings Proposals for 2014/15 and are "banking" on continuing the wheelie bin trial after the initial six months are up. The Appendix to the relevant report included : ---------------------------------------------------------- Ref: A05 Savings title: Wheeled bin trial for collection of waste 2014/15 saving £ 59k Part A Description of saving: In March 2013 Cabinet approved a wheeled bin trial for the collection of rubbish from 7,500 properties as an alternative to the black sack rubbish waste collection. This trial provides a fixed capacity for household waste, encouraging residents to recycle more and reduce their waste. This reduction is a direct saving on the waste disposal budget. The saving of £59,000 identified when the trial was approved will be achieved if 561 tonnes (at £105 per tonne) are diverted from landfill. Part B Service impact: No impact on service, residents in trial area will continue to have a wheeled bin. Part C Equality Analysis Summary: No formal assessment has been completed at the stage. Suitable adjustments/ assisted collection have been introduced for residents that need it. Part D Summary of relevant consultation results: A survey was sent to all effected households in the pre-trial information pack, 30% of households responded with the following results 80% were in favour of the trial 58% thought it would help them recycle more 74% thought spillage was a problem in their road. The survey will be repeated mid way through and at the end of the 6 month trial to see if perceptions have changed. Part E Summary of impact on accommodation, property and assets: Wheeled bins remain asset of the council and there is a policy in place for repair and replacement. -------------------------------------------------------- Anyone got any recollection of a mid-term survey ? |
