Hi Michael, Thanks for your comments. However, you have missed the point. The laws that are left are not the ones that 'I' or anyone else 'want' to stay. As I specificed before - If you hold the BIble systematically together and look at the relevance of the different sacrifices and laws of the Jewish people then you will see there are different laws for different areas. Because Jesus' ultimate sacrifice made atonement for sins once and for all for eternity - then there is no longer any need for the blood sacrifices of bulls, goats, pigeons and lambs etc. All that is needed is faith, repentance and obedience. The cultural laws for the day (ie the place of women in society - a womans witness statement was not considered a valid witness in court in those days) are now irrelevant. Howwever, the moral laws are still very much applicable. These are the laws in which God's people can live in continued relationship with God after accepting Jesus as their Messiah. These laws are lived out as worshipful obedience and thanksgiving for Jesus Christ - NOT as a way to get to heaven and be in Gods good books. A trust a religion despising cynic to cite the homosexuality one - thats a cheap trick!! What about all the others and maybe even the ones you agree with?? Murder, rape, incest, child moestation, stealing, etc etc etc???? No picking and choosing at all - rather worshipful submission to God through His Word. As for the graven images thing - the second commandment in Exodus - it follows from the first. 'You shall have no other gods bewfore me...' then ... 'you shall not make for yourself a graven image...' This means basically - any other idol or image of a false god that will try and mimick God in heaven. It is not about trying to poretically or artistically depict God or Jesus in a stained Glass window or statue (even though I am not keen on these things) - no - it is about idol worship - worshipping anything man made - a 'graven image' of a god (small g)... |
