The issue is this should not be a state visit. The pope is welcome to visit this country and remains important to many peoples lives. An appropriate level of security would be provided etc. BUT he does not warrant a state visit as he's not a head of state and we're spending far too much on him because it's a state visit. Also if he was a head of state he has not exactly been nice about this country.
