Personally? On the basis that there are 613 or however many commandments in leviticus and thereabouts, not all of which are suited to the modern world and that alternative frameworks such as the Reform one have been evolving since the mid-19th century. I find my religious identification and real life more compatible within that framework - which allows one to drive on the Sabbath and indeed Yom Kippur. But then I mix linen and cotton too, don't object to female rabbis and am positively in favour of mixed seating and egalitarian participation in services. |
